There's a community of feral cats in my neighborhood, many of whom live in a ruined shed on the property next door to me. One of the neighbors has been (with my permission) putting out food and water for them in the corner of my yard every evening. He wanted to do more, but didn't know what else he could do, and I didn't have an answer for him.

A 4-year-old girl in New York City's Brooklyn wanted to be a flower girl at a wedding, but nobody her family knew was getting married. So she and her mom came up with another idea. They made a sign that said, "Can I be your flower girl?", and went to the City Clerk's office in Manhattan, where couples often go for a simple civil marriage. She wore her prettiest, most flowery dress, and even brought her own flowers. The second couple she asked found her too adorable to resist, and she got her wish - complete with cake. Sometimes all it takes is a smile! :)

http://sobiratelzvezd.ru/mister-schastlivyj-chelovek/

Poem by Lizzie A.

It all starts with a smile

A kind word can go a long mile

Laughter is a cure for anything

And love is vital in everything

The sun lights up the earth and asks for nothing back

Love one another, maybe that’s what some lack.

A sun ray goes a long way

So smile and light up someone’s day.

I updated our baby blog to reflect that we now have an 8-day-old baby. :D

We are so tired, and overjoyed. One of the best things so far: My mother-in-law told one of her friends, someone I don't know, that she's never known another infant to be born into such a powerful, loving, and accepting community than our own kid.

Here's a story to remind us that there's far more to life than dishonesty, exploitation, and violence...

Our baby is due in a week or two.
I caught up on the blog here: http://familyvalues.dreamwidth.org/11941.html
I'm nervous and not, totally excited but somewhat mellow about it, busy and tired already, and just overwhelmingly happy. My life is really beyond my wildest dreams.
